Hazon In Focus
What is the mission of your organization?
Hazon fosters new vision in the Jewish community and supports peopleís Jewish journeys through outdoor and environmental education.
What are the central activities of your organization?
  1. Cross-USA Jewish Environmental Bike Ride ñ in the year 2000; 12 riders; 3,000 miles; ended at the White House, won national award from the EPA.
  2. The New York Jewish Environmental Bike Ride ñ the first one, in 2001, had 40 riders and raised $32,000. The 4th ride, in 2004, had 220 participants and raised nearly $150,000.
  3. The Arava Institute Hazon Israel Ride: Cycling for Peace, Partnership & Environmental Protection. The first, in 2003, had 38 US participants. The 2004 ride had 88 US participants.
  4. Beit Midrash / Learning Community ñ multi-week pluralistic learning communities.
  5. Tuv Haíaretz ñ the first Jewish Community-Supported Agriculture Project in New York ñ launched successfully in 2004.
What events are you planning in the future?
  1. Three-part lecture series on Jews, Food, and the Environment at Congregation Ansche Chesed in New York.
  2. Tu BíShvat seder ñ January, 2005 at the JCC in Manhattan.
  3. 2005 Arava Institute Hazon Israel Ride: Cycling for Peace, Partnership & Environmental Protection ñ May 10-17, 2005 ñ registration now open.
  4. 2005 Tuv Haíaretz in NY, Monsey & Philadelphia.
  5. 2005 New York Jewish Environmental Bike Ride ñ Sept 2-5, 2005.
How many people do you serve?
More than 500 people have now participated in a Ride. Several thousand have been to teaching events. More than 3,000 have made individual donations.

Ride fees; rider fundraising; foundations; individual donations.
